What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a cooperative, not-for-profit; financial institution owned by the membership it serves.  Credit unions exist only for their members and use their income to provide affordable, quality products and services for members.  When you use our products and services, you are paying yourself!

Credit unions are founded and operated on democratic principles.  Therefore, members elect those who serve voluntarily as the Board of Directors.  Every member has the same opportunity and power to vote, no matter how much money a member has on deposit.

The National Credit Union Association, (NCUA), federally charters many credit unions, including FNEFCU.  The NCUA annually audits and rates each federally chartered credit union and insures member accounts up to $100,000.  You can have peace of mind with the knowledge that your funds are safe with us.

Credit unions have strong community commitment and work to enrich the quality of life for others. Credit union membership in this country is steadily increasing as members realize our benefits.  Our credit union is also part of the worldwide credit union movement.
